Conventional Drug Remedies Versus Natural Herbal Remedies
Hippocrates, the father of medicine once said, ‘Nature Cures, not the Physician’. Ancient scriptures of India talk extensively about the use of natural elements – air , sun, water and earth – as well as plants and minerals for curing ailments. The Great Baths of the Harappan era bear testimony to the fact that what is now called Hydrotherapy has been in existence a long time. Even today in India, every family has its share of ‘grandma’s recipes’, which are concoctions of common kitchen herbs to treat anything from an upset stomach to migraine.
Nature cure is based on the fact that if man lives in accordance with the laws of nature, he can remain healthy as well as regain lost health. The basic tenets of a healthy life are fresh air, sunshine, a balanced diet, exercise, relaxation, positive thinking and meditation/prayer. It also believes that a sound body and a sound mind go hand-in-hand, and one should aim not only for physical fitness, but also for mental and emotional wellness.
What Causes Disease?
Our entire body – all the organs and fluids – is in a state of dynamic equilibrium. This means that although its state is constantly changing, the sum total of all changes is such that the body remains in equilibrium. When an ailment affects one part of the body, this equilibrium is disturbed. And like a small pebble thrown into a lake, it can send ripples to all corners of the body. So if you end up eating a lot of junk food and upsetting your stomach, the toxins therein also have an effect on other organs like your bowels, liver, kidneys, lungs, skin and other organs involved in getting rid of these harmful substances. This ends up disturbing the body’s electric field, further disturbing the equilibrium of various cellular systems as well as our mind. It also creates a temporary ‘letting the armour down’ which pathogens can capitalize on and cause infections.
The Difference Between Naturopathy And Allopathy
Modern systems of medicine like allopathy usually target a specific symptom or set of symptoms and not the disease in its entirety. Often, the root cause of the disease gets overlooked while attempting to cure the symptoms, which may end up worsening the condition. We have almost accepted that all treatments come with their side effects, without realizing that the very presence of side effects means the treatment is not optimal.
With only a few exceptions, most drugs today do not cure the disease, but only change its pattern, and end up either thwarting the body’s defenses or giving it additional issues to contend with. Ultimately it’s the body which has to fight itself out of the situation it’s in. Hence the power to heal lies only with Mother Nature.
Naturopathy believes that all forms of disease have one thing in common – the cause is a build-up of certain toxic wastes in our system, and the first job at hand is to ‘unchoke the drain’ and clean up the toxins. These toxins accumulate not in a day or two, but over years due to incorrect habits like poor dietary choice, worry and mental unrest and excesses of all kinds. Read the full Article.
